Measurement of ionization quenching in plastic scintillators

چکیده

Plastic scintillators are widely used in high-energy and medical physics, often for measuring the energy of ionizing radiation. Their main disadvantage is their non-linear response to highly radiation, called ionization quenching. This nonlinearity must be modeled corrected applications where an accurate measurement required. We present a new experimental technique granularly measure dependence quenching on energy-deposition density. Based this method, we determine parameters four commonly models two plastic using protons with energies 30 MeV 100 MeV; compare Bayesian approach. also report first model-independent density, providing purely empirical view into

Optical simulation and experimental measurement of gamma ray energy spectrum of plastic scintillators with different sizes

The application of large plastic scintillators is widely increasing in the different areas of industry, medicine and security due to technical and economic advantages. One of the main disadvantages of these detectors is the unknown position of Compton edge at gamma ray spectrum. In this research, GEANT4/GATE code has been used to simulate the gamma ray spectrum for different volumes of large pl...

Temperature dependence of plastic scintillators

Plastic scintillator detectors have been studied as dosimeters, since they provide a cost-effective alternative to conventional ionization chambers. On the other hand, several articles have reported undesired response dependencies on beam energy and temperature, which enhances the necessity to determine appropriate correction factors. In this work, we studied the light yield temperature depende...

Ultra-Fast Timing with Plastic Scintillators

As precursor to HISPEC, the upcoming PreSPEC campaign incorporates the commissioning of the first version of the LYCCA (Lund-York-Cologne-CAlorimeter) detector system called LYCCA-0. The LYCCA detector is a Time-of-Flight (ToF), ∆E, E set-up designed to unambigiously identify nuclear reaction products by their mass A, and charge Z . For this to be possible up to masses around A = 100, the total...

Quenching stress, quenching current and plastic strain in superconductors

mechanical stress and maximum superconducting current have been calculated for a superconductor subjected to uniform plastic deformation. The training effect due to strain hardening o f the material is discussed. These results are compared with an analogous case when the normal transition is caused by the thermo-magnetomechanical instability. The quenching current is shown to depend on the hist...

Semi-empirical calculation of quenching factors for scintillators: new results

New results of calculation of quenching factors for ions in scintillators in semi-empirical approach described in [1] are presented. In particular, they give additional arguments in favour of hypothesis that quenching factors for different particles can be described with the same Birks factor kB, if all the data were collected in the same conditions and processed in the same way.
